Waterloo Mayor Tim Hurley was an easy mark. Fresh from the success of bringing casino gambling to the Cedar Valley, this high roller muscled through the local zoning decision for LS Power because he was convinced the power plant would be another “gold mine.” And perhaps it really will be.

Global Warming’s Long Story

You might be excused if you missed an article on December 21, 1969 in the New York Times. In a small report on a meeting of the American Geophysical Union, the Times published its first article that used the term “global warming.” The science, even in 1969, was stunningly accurate.
